What is a rhetorical analysis?
i am writing a 5 pg rhetorical analysis paper about newport cigarette ad and just can not find a good thesis to start with. having a major melt down!
In rhetorical analysis, you are going to analyze the strategies the creator of the advertisement uses to make their point.
For instance:
-Analyze the sentence structure.
-Use of repetition, punctuation, etc.
-Analyze the vocabulary used
-Any literary devices (alliteration/assonance, hyperbole, simile, metaphor)
I am not sure what the advertisement looks like, so I don't know how much text there actually is in the ad. Typically, rhetorical analysis (from rhetoric, meaning persuasive writing), focuses on the text as opposed to images. Still, I imagine that you could incorporate the persuasive methods used in the graphics.
