No they don't check your blood for nicotine from cigarettes unless it is specifically designated in the instructions. Residuals will stay in your blood for up to 10 days. However there are several thousand chemicals in tobacco inhalation that stay in your system, fat tissues, brain etc for a much longer time. Unless your employer has a no smoking policy for insurance reasons, for example, or for a cessation pay off, the residuals of smoking cigarettes are not tested. This would add extra cost to the test. Here in Indiana the state tax on a pack of cigarettes is 55 cents. The cost of problems to the smoker and non smokers alike is estimated to be about $8 a pack through the years in illness, medication, and lost wages and missed work and dependancy on state and federal disablility checks and workman's comp. This is a reason that some companies now require that test.
