What is the origin of the phrase "hint of mint" to describe someone suspected of being gay? There is/was a cigarette called Lucky Strike. One of the additives used in the 1950's early 60's was a mint flavoring. Since it was supposed to be subtle it was called "a hint of mint". (The term could actually be older than that but the use by cigarette advertising in the 50's/60's is when I first heard it).
How it evolved into meaning someone might be gay, I have no idea. Probably came along with "light in the loafers" I thought "hint of mint" was mint scented condoms.
What kind of cigarettes did I smoke? A friend of mine let me smoke one of his cigarettes one time and I'm not sure what it was. It could have been a little cigar because I think it had a brown wrapper and it also had a filter, but I know for a fact it wasn't a primetime. I't wasnt in a standard shaped cigarette pack either it was longer and white. The flavor was very sweet unlike any normal cigarette.
Does anyone know what it could have been, I really liked it but can't figure out what it was. Best Answer - Chosen by Voters Black and mild or swisher sweet. If it was really really sweet/spicy then it could have been a clove cigarette. Did it have a white/off white mouthpiece? If so, then it was probably a black & mild.

No cigarettes, what should I do with myself? Most people feel withdrawal symptoms when they quit smoking. There are 2 types of addiction: the physical and the psychological.
One major withdrawal symptom that you should expect to feel is the strong craving to smoke. You know what it's like to have a cigarette craving that you aren't allowed to satisfy. Think of the last time you were in a place where smoking isn't permitted (in an airplane, restaurant, office, shopping mall, meeting room, etc.). The source of the craving may be physical (your body is telling you it needs nicotine) or psychological (you need stress relief) or a combination of both. The 4 D's listed below can help you deal with cigarette cravings. And keep in mind that both the frequency and intensity of your cravings will decrease as the duration since your last cigarette increases.
Deep Breaths
Breathe in and breathe out slowly, as if you were smoking a cigarette. When you do deep breathing, inhale deeply, hold it for a couple seconds, and then release it slowly. Deep breathing will help you relax and make the craving dissipate.
Drink Water
Drink lots of water all day long, especially during a craving. Drinking water helps flush the toxins out of your system, and it will help keep your hands and mouth busy if that's something you miss from smoking. Some ex-smokers prefer to drink through a straw, which also helps with the oral fixation.
Distract
Distract yourself by getting up and making yourself active. Go for a brisk walk. Go out and meet with a friend. If you choose to stay indoors, go into a different room. Grab a carrot stick and munch on it elsewhere. Put on some music. Open a book or browse through a magazine. Call up a friend. Many smokers have said that when they get an urge to smoke and then make the effort to change their surrounding environment, they do get distracted and actually forget that they wanted to smoke.
Delay
Most smokers falsely assume that each craving lasts a long time -- maybe 45 minutes or so. Time yourself to learn the truth. Cravings come and go quickly. The average craving really only lasts about 5 to 10 minutes. No matter how strong the craving is, convince yourself that you can wait 10 minutes. To help those 10 minutes go by, practice the other D's. Go for a run. Get some oxygen into those lungs.
wow... who knew quitting smoking could make you want to become a sniper and hideout above freeways?
What size cigarette did the old Laredo cigarette machine fill? I remember as a kid helping my adult cousin make his own cigarettes from a Laredo kit, which had the tobacco in a tin, paper tubes with filter ends and the plug-type filters with cigarette packs for the finished product to go into.
I recall many times watching TV with my cousin while making cigarettes with his ingenious machine, and the interesting conversations we would have during these earlier times.
The Laredo machine was an ingenious system as it was simple, quick and easy to use, and I've gotten to wondering what size of cigarette tube (that is the part you fill with tobacco which has the plug filter and tobacco inserted into it) was filled?
Back in those years (1970's) I doubt there was much variety in sizes like are available today, but I really don't remember these sorts of details from so long ago. (I'm pretty sure the machine could only handle one size tube)
Does anybody recall the length and width (diameter) of paper tubes the Laredo cigarette machines filled? Best Answer - Chosen by Voters They were the 'King Sized' cigarettes. The 'regular' were the ones with NO filter, and 'King Sized' were slightly longer because of the filters. You can still get 'tubes' with filters, and a 'machine' to make the cigarettes, but I don't think you can get a 'pack' to put them in ... and the cigarettes are still 'King Sized, unless you ask for '100s' ... and then I don't know how you 'fill' that extra space ... maybe it's just that the filter is longer, or maybe they sell a 'longer' machine ... and all tubes have the same 'diameter' ... it's the same as a 'tailor made' (storebought packs) cigarette is today... the 'regular' ones, not the 'extra thins.'
AND THAT is me knowing FAR TOO MUCH about smoking, because I am TRYING TO QUIT.
wraps wholesale, cigarette rolling papers, cigarette rolling, white owl blunts, phillies blunts, blunt papers, blunt rolling, cigarette tube ...
What should I do about my husband and his smoking? This is a little complicated...My husband has smoked since he was 8 years old. Marlboro reds. The week after we were married, my mom found out she had lung cancer and died a week later. At that moment, he swore he would never smoke again.
I have found 3 receipts for cigarettes in his work pants over the past couple months. He swears he doesn't smoke. One of his employers (it was just a one-day job) said that he saw my husband smoking. My husband said that it was just that one time because he was nervous. When I asked him about the receipts, he told me that he bought cigarettes for his coworker because he didn't have money.
His car smells like cigarette smoke. He says that is because he transports other workers who smoke cigarettes.
He admitted that he smoked a cigarette the day I gave birth to our daughter, but other than that, swears up and down that he doesn't smoke...ever.
How do I deal with this? I love him, but feel he doesn't care about his family. Best Answer - Chosen by Asker Sorry but I really need to yell at some of these posters. Please bear with me for a moment while I do this.
I am so tired of hearing this utter crapola about how addictive nicotine is and about all these horrible withdrawal symptoms that the potential quitter will have to experience . No wonder people have such a hard time quitting, they actually believe these lies and of course don't look forward to going through that experience. You heard me nicotine withdrawal is really no big deal and in fact it's a rather easy and only mildly uncomfortable experience. There is no retching, no fetal positions, no shakes ,nothing nada .
How do i know this ? Empirically
I was a 2+ pack a day smoker for 23 years. I used to smoke camel straights
10 years ago 12/19/96 I looked over at the woman who unfortunately is now my ex-wife and figured the greatest Christmas present I could give her was me living longer so we could enjoy more time together. I stopped smoking cold turkey and haven't had one since. The first week was annoying but I've recovered from operations and orthopedic injuries that had first weeks that were much worse .
I made a discovery; the hardest part about quitting smoking is not the nicotene-that's easy- but rather the habit itself. Think of all those things that you do that you have cigarette with;
long distance solo driving, a couple of drinks, a cup of coffee , possibly after sex ,who knows ?Now you have to change those habits . Plus there is the oral fixation component - which is why people get fat . Yes going without a cigarette for a week is annoying but it's by no means as difficult as people make it out to be.
What are some legitimate websites I can buy cigarettes from in Canada? I've been trying to order some cartons of Dunhill cigarettes online but I've had no luck. All the websites I've tried either don't ship to Canada or seem illegitimate. The only websites I've found that will ship to Canada have been flagged as scams.
