Hi. It's water vapour... more or less. The main components of an e-liquid are PG (a germicide that was used in hospitals before the ultraviolets) and VG (sometimes only VG for those who don't get along with PG but it's sweeter), nicotine (or no nic for those who don't want it) and flavourings. Nicotine in itself is a mild stimulant that seems to prevent Parkinson and Alzheimer and maybe help concentration levels. Despite all the anti-nic propaganda and all its visibility and despite it being addictive, the Big Tobacco has several much more addictive substances in cigarettes but nobody seems to know about them for some reason (the worthless Big Pharma patches etc.?). Cigarettes also contain about 5000 substances, many of which clearly bad, namely hydrogen cyanide, carbon monoxide, lead and tar to name just the most well known. Ecigs are actually free from all that, very simple juices and devices. Moreover, while a cigarette burns at about 1500ÂșC, ecigs produce vapour at 100 and somethingÂșC. Difference in temperatures, differecences between a vapour rather similar to that used in shows (PG) and actual smoke from something burning. If you don't smoke, no need to vape I say. If you smoke and adjust well tyo ecigs, I say go for it, the sooner the better. Here are some very good forums in different styles you may join, ask questions, learn... Then you'll have a better idea of what you prefer - ukvapers.org (UK), Vapeatron (US), Creative Liquids (US/International; well, they're all international), ptvapers and zona vaper if you can speak Portuguese, oh, not forgetting ECF which is pretrty big, international too, very US based though. Forums are the best places to learn unless you find a vendor who doesn't mind acting as a vaping teacher (but vendors wish to sell their products, naturally, so they'll always be more biased; that's why you shouldn't join forums that belong to particular brands for the time being too). Good luck!

EDIT: Btw, you'll really have to chain vape a lot and with high nicotine levels to even start feeling a headache, the first sign of nicotine poisoning - in that case, stop for a couple of hours and you'll be fine. But I don't see that happening with lower nic levels. As for it causing cancer, well, that's sheer ignorance, there isn't one single reliable research that makes that kind of statement.

EDIT: Oh well... Regarding the people around you. No, there isn't any kind of second hand smoke and even the nicotine levels in the air are basically non-existent - so says every non-paid, non-biased research (and there are many, of all kinds). The only thing that may happen is some people may dislike some smells as some people can't stand some perfumes.
