Long cigarettes are just that, cigarettes longer than the standard four-inch "king-size" variant. Some people like them better because the longer drag cools the smoke more before it reaches the lungs, making it more flavorful and less irritating.
Light cigarettes (well, that's a verboten term now, let's say "Gold Pack") use two methods to lower the tar and nicotine content compared to "red pack" cigarettes. The first is to use a different method to dry the tobacco, making it puffier. Thus, less tobacco per tube, less tar, and less nicotine. The second method (usually used by ultra-light, excuse me, "Silver Pack" cigarettes) is to use synthetic, non-toxic, tobacco analogues in the cigarette.
